Purpose
The National Pantheon of Heroes is a great landmark in the capital of Paraguay, Asuncion. It was created in honor of the heroes of Paraguay who had fought in past wars. It also serves as a reminder to all that war is something that should be truly feared because of how many men had died in the War of Triple Alliances. Losing nine out of every ten men can devastate a culture, but Paraguay bounced back. This monument also shows the resilience of the people of Paraguay. This monument has a central role in life for some citizens because it is customary that after a historic event, people who live in Asuncion flock the streets with flags to celebrate.
Why It is Important NowToday, this historical monument is still an important figure. People pay homage to the lost and forgotten heroes of the two great wars since gaining independence. This monument is quite similar to the United State's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
